I'm super excited to share with you my newest body project collaboration in the city of Detroit.
I thoroughly enjoy the art of storytelling. Sometimes, we can tell a story without one word. But through images or movement.
I often hear that people don't read anymore. That people don't care. That there's so much going on in the world that people have lost hope.
I know what it feels like to be without hope. To not be able to see past the mental wall that's in front of you. To not see the good in people. To think that no one cares.
None of it is true. Those are doubts. That is fear. We are our own walls...
I've become my own wall lately.
But, I have to remind myself, others have to remind me of what I've become, what I am, and what I can be, and most of all, why did I start this movement in the first place.
I started my platform to rebel. Against societal norms of weight and diet culture. To deconstruct the stereotypical ideologies of Black woman-ness. To shed the oppression of women in religious forms.
This video is so bad-ass. So feminist. So full of fat, carefree, Muslim girl-ness. And, I am so proud to be able to create even when I'm broken at times.
What does this video say to you? What emotions does it evoke? What's the story here? Let's chat.
